Did you know that the 2nd cause of accidental death (after CAR WRECKS) is combining PERSCRIPTION drugs w/ OVER THE COUNTER drugs. 100K people a YEAR die from this accident.
I always worry about this because I have so many family members on Perscription meds and I just hate the unknown of combinations of medicine. so......tonight I was watching DR. OZ and thought I would share just 4 combo's you NEED TO KNOW about that are DEADLY.
1. Pain Pills w/ Blood Thinners
2. Pain Pills w/ Diet Pills
3. Calcium w/ Thyroid drugs
4. Decongestants w/ Diabetes Meds or w/ Blood Pressure Medication
This is really alarming because how many people do you know that take say a diet pill or diabetes medication and then get a headache or migraine and I'm sure w/o thinking they take an over the counter med and the combo COULD KILL YOU!
Just something to be aware of and just know that over the counter drugs are safe IF USED AS DIRECTED, so ask the pharmacist LOTS of ?"s before just taking it.

If you have an iPhone ( or a computer for that matter) download the application called Epocrates ( or go to epocrates.com) . It is free and has a quick med ( both over the counter and Rx) interaction checker. It was designed for doctors but I was never asked for any type of verification when I downloaded it. It's such a scary thing and I honestly have caught some potentially serious interactions.
