So I am sure all of you know about this awful story and tragedy of the lil' 7 year old girl that was killed this week. Well the day after they found her I was listening to the Doug Wright show (I am getting old if I like talk radio huh) anyways I went to help a friend at her home and turned on her radio to continue listening about different opinions from the community and long story short is that she told me I should not torture myself by listening to all the details as they broke on this story. She then preceeded to tell me that when her husband was in Vietnam during the war she had NO idea if he was safe. She didn't know if he was being shot down (he flew a plane) , if he was a POW, or if he was safe. She then realized that she was "Killing" her husband DAILY with all the awful things she could imagine might happen to him and that was so torturous to her. One day she decided she'd had enough and she put her husband in a safe place "mentally" in her mind and told herself that unless those men in blue suits came to her door to announce her husbands death, she couldn't worry about it and he was safe.
This was extremely profound advice to me as a mother. How many awful things are in the world today that could harm our children? Toooooo many to name right? Well we could sit and worry EVERY DAY about all the horrible things that could happen and by doing that cause ourselves unnecessary grief OR we could put our children in a safe play in our minds (Obviously not being naive but safe) and go on about our lives in a much less worrisome manner.
Anyways.... I thought that was good advice.
I pray for the sweet family that has just lost their daughter and hope they are surrounded with much love.

that is great advice. I think as women and especially mothers we can be SUCH worry warts! My mom is A HUGE WORRY WART and so I try not to be because "worry is like a rocking horse, it keeps you going, but gets you no where!" There are ALWAYS endless things to worry about
Yeah, I've been so sick about that little girl. It's awful. I'm the worst with worry and cause myself great anxiety...I try hard to live by "replacing fear with faith" but I struggle.
She often has the best advice :)
I had that same discussion w/ my boss after that horrible incident occurred. Life is way to short to not live each day to the fullest!!
Good thinkin', Nattie!! Sometimes the mind is such a freaky thing! (I have the greatest fear of my kids falling from really high places, so I HATE the idea of hiking in the mountains or going to Mesa Falls with them). From now on, I'm puttin' them in a SAFE place!! :) Thanks!
That is really good advice! I'm so glad you posted that, it's something alot of us need to hear. :o)
